Cover Glass Inspection

Mobile display cover glass has to meet the requirements of crystal clear images, withstand every day application and allow smooth touch screen use.

The Dr. Schenk systems apply a combination of advanced optics and illumination, using up to 16 optical channels in a single system to inspect the front and reverse of the bare or printed surface glass and its coatings. In addition, edge defects are detected and the entire glass edge is inspected.

Typical tasks for GlassInspect for bare and printed cover glass are the detection of cosmetic and functional defects, such as:

  • Dent defects
  • Scratch defects
  • Stain defects (e.g. stain fibre defects, stain cleaning residue defects)
  • Inclusion defects
  • Edge chip defects
  • Printing defects (e.g. pinhole defects, saw edge defects)

In addition, GlassInspect for cover glass performs dimension measurements of:

  • Glass width and length
  • Window size (printed glass)
  • Menu and speaker holes

This helps to save money, as cover glasses that are defective or do not meet the pre-defined quality standards can be excluded from further processing. In addition, the results are fed back into the production line for continuous improvement of the production process.
